DAY 23 - the 3rd day in a row at sea!

It was only a few days ago that we were all bundled up in several layers, parkas, gloves, hats and boots. Today it would appear that half the ship's guests are lounging poolside in the warm sun. The seas have calmed dramatically over the last few days and everyone seems a bit melancholy. (I may be projecting here.)
Today, I used my time to decide what I would pack for the return journey home. Many times when I travel I pack clothing that I have purchased at a deep discount at one of the better consignment stores in town or items that I don't love anymore for the purpose of leaving stuff behind for the staff or housecleaning crew. This leaves extra room in my suitcase for souvenirs and the I have never had a situation where it wasn't appreciated by staff.
I culled through and created two stacks. One to pack for the trip home and one to stay. I informed our Stateroom Attendant that I would be leaving items and we made arrangements for her to donate those things to the crew members in need.
In the evening the entire crew was present for a memorable send-off. Captain Bjarne Larsen and the Expedition Leader, Robin West presented highlights from our trip, calling it "A brochure cruise." Indeed it was. Captain Larsen, who was mostly quite stoic, made a reference to being happy about getting the heck out away from the ice belt that had hemmed us in for hours a few days earlier. Everyone laughed although it didn't seem funny at the time. He also informed us that they woman who had suffered a stroke on our first day of expedition was doing well. Everyone was very happy to receive an update on her condition.
Pat and Rosemarie presented a slideshow with photos from previous voyages as well as highlights from our own trip. We were informed that we would all be receiving the photos on a flash drive when we returned to our room.
Finally, the crew was introduced. Each of those wonderful folks who took such good care of us walked one by one into the Grand Salon to a standing ovation from all of the passengers! Everyone left the room smiling and hugging and generally feeling great about the entire experience. Even Jovanka was smiling. :-)

Michael and I travel mostly because we like learning and experiencing new things, seeing new places and learning about different cultures and food that only comes from getting out and about in the world.
