-Journey to the end of the world

Les Eclaireures Lighthouse - The Lighthouse at the End of the World
In the late afternoon, Michael, Edith and I took a Catamaran excursion through the Beagle Channel where we passed Isla de los Pajaros (Bird Island) where many species of birds congregate - mostly cormorants. We cruised around Isla de Los Lobos (Sea Lion Island) where are large colony of Sea Lions and Seals barked at one another, lazily slept on rocks and generally blended in with their environs. As we headed back our Catamaran Captain decided the weather was cooperating enough to take us by the Les Eclaireures Lighthouse - the Lighthouse at the End of the World.

We are now leaving Ushuaia, Argentina and headed for the Southern Ocean. (Google this if you aren't familiar with the nightmare weather.) The passage from Argentina to Antarctica can take two days if the Drake Passage is the "Drake Shake" or only one day if it is the "Drake Lake." I think it would be fair to say that my husband is a bit obsessed about the Drake Passage and the Southern Ocean in particular because of the sailing books he was read about nightmare experiences other sailors have had when attempting the crossing. Whenever I ask Michael about it, he says in his best Elvis impersonator voice, "40 ft. waves ahead baby! Uh, huh!" This does not amuse me...much.

So, with that said, if I don't post anything for the next week or so you will know that we either don't have an internet connection or that we may be featured on your local evening news. (*Wink) Happy New Year to all of you! May 2015 bring each of you good tidings.

Michael and I travel mostly because we like learning and experiencing new things, seeing new places and learning about different cultures and food that only comes from getting out and about in the world.
